What supplements I take for my hypothyroidism
While I get most of my nutrients from a nutrient dense diet but I feel that we still need to supplement on some vitamins or mineral as they are vital to our being. Some minerals are really hard to get the full daily required amount so the easy way is to supplement on it. I also always make sure that the supplements is allergen free. So without further a do lets start with my supplementing list and why I choose to take them.

MAGNESIUM
Magnesium is often left behind or forgotten. It is essential for over 300 mechanism in the body. We usually get our magnesium from leafy greens but due to the depletion of the minerals in the soil, we no longer get enough magnesium from the food we eat. We are all very deficient in this mineral. After making lots of research on this ancient mineral, I found that the best way to take magnesium is by trans dermal application. Oral tablets might help but not so easily absorb. So I apply around 20 sprays of Magnesium oil on my skin. If on certain stressful days, or high sugar consumption days I would apply maybe 30 sprays magnesium oil on my skin. When we have high stress or high sugar in our diet, our body uses Magnesium to over come the stress or to burn the sugar. That is the reason why i up my magnesium intake on such days. I usually make my own magnesium oil. I will post the recipe in my next blog. Here are the benefits:-- it helps the muscles and nerves to relax
- good for gums, I spray some on my toothpaste few times a week,
- helps with the absorption and creation of vitamin D
- makes the bone strong
- deep sleep at night
- hair growth
- for a healthy heart health
- body odor ( say goodbye to deodorants)
SELENIUM
This is another under dog in the mineral world. If you don't eat brazil nuts everyday then I suggest you to supplement on this amazing mineral. I take around 200 mcg daily with my thyroid med. Here are some of the amazing benefits:-- aids in the conversation of T4 to T3
- boost immune system
- anti oxidant and aids in the production of glutathione
- prevents cancer
- protects the heart from heart disease
- regulates blood sugar
IODINE
In this day and age where we are exposed to thyroid damaging Halides such as fluoride, chloride and bromine, we have to make sure that we getting enough Iodine to prevent damage to the thyroid and other part of the body. The Japanese have really high intake of Iodine mostly from seaweed to seafood and they are the healthiest and have the highest longevity. I get my Iodine from Sea salt, seaweed, seafood and eggs. I also take around 2 drops of Lugols Iodine on my wrist and I rub it to my Thyroid as well.. The reason I choose Lugols Iodine is because it contains Iodide as well. Our body needs both Iodine and Iodide. Hence Lugols was the best choice. Here are some of the amazing benefits:-- produces thyroid hormones
- detoxes the body of heavy metals and halides
- prevents cancer cells
- prevents fibroid and cysts
- essential for fetus brain development during pregnancy
- minimize diabetes
VITAMIN C
Our body do not store Vitamin C so whatever excess vitamin C we take in a day will be expelled in the urine. That is why it is so important to take sufficient amount of vitamin C everyday. My favourite way of getting vitamin C is through real food based Vitamin C supplement. I also eat lots of fruits and food that is high in Vitamin C. I take around 500-1000 mg. Here are some reason to add this awesome vitamin to your diet:-- good for clear glowing skin
- produces collagen
- boost immune system
- increase bone and teeth health
- improves brain function
OMEGA-3
Our modern day diet is so high in the inflammatory Omega-6 that it creates an off balance in the healthy Omega-3 and Omega-9 ratios. So I always try to minimize the intake of Omega 6 rich foods and eat more fatty fish such as Anchovies, Sardines, Mackerels and salmon. Here in Europe eating sea/ocean caught fish is a luxury. Most fishes here are farmed. Thus supplementing in a good quality Fish oil is vital and necessary. In Asia we eat fish almost everyday and we eat the small fish such as the mackerel and sardines. They are fresh from the sea and cheap, When I'm in Europe, I have no choice but to go on the supplementing route. Here are some reasons why Fish oils are awesome:-- glowing and radiant skin
- good for heart health
- reduces inflammation
- anti-cancer properties
- important for fetus development during pregnancy
- fights depression
- reduces chances of getting Alzheimer's
MULTIVITAMIN
I love taking the multi vitamin tablet everyday just because at least I know that I'm getting all the nutrients that I should be getting if I fall short in any nutrients. Multivitamin contains little bit of all the important and vital minerals and vitamins which the body needs.note:- if you are starting with Iodine then make sure to take it together with selenium. Think of Iodine as a soldier, one soldier cannot go to war by himself right? He will definitely lose the battle so a team of soldier will help the body to fight all kind of disease and symptoms. So by adding Magnesium, selenium, Vitamin C and B complex, you create the perfect team of soldiers to fight all disease in the body.
